Hello again from South Africa!!
It was so good to receive so many messages from all of you! It's so fun for me to sign on to a computer and know that so many of you are reading my updates and thinking of me! Everything continues to be well with me and with my team. I am excited to have this opportunity to send you this report!
This week, several of my teammates and I have spent our time in a squatter camp called Atteridgeville. The people here are near the poorest of the poor, and yet the needs they express are nearly all spiritual and emotional. Often, as we walk, people will approach us to ask, "Are you here to teach us the Word of God?" The people here crave spiritual truth and they love to talk and pray with us. As a team, we really are living as "ambassadors for Christ" (2 Corinth. 5:20). It's amazing.
As we climb the mountain in Atteridgeville each day, groups of children come running to greet us and to walk with us. The children are starving for love and attention. As we spend time holding them and tying their little shoes, I am reminded of Jesus' words: "Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belong the kingdom of heaven" (Matt. 19:14). It has also been a blessing to be able to spend time with the local women who spend their days looking after the youngest children in the community. The strength of these women never ceases to amaze me. I have enjoyed keeping these women company, encouraging them, and helping to lighten their load.
This week, we have also been meeting with 3 men who are so hungry to know and to understand the Word of God. Several of us have met with these men each day to answer their questions and to teach them from the Bible. Through this time we have spent together, I have seen the message of Jesus truly bring hope, peace, and freedom from fear to these men. It is true, my friends, when Jesus said, "If you abide in my word, you are my true disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free" (John 8:32).
I look forward to returning to these men, women, and children next week so that I can continue to share my life with them. God has been so good to all of us here in Africa!
Please continue to pray for our ministry here. Pray for our transportation, as the vans we drive are very old and not holding up very well. Pray for our teams as they are formed and pray for the decisions we make each day that we may serve God, the community, and each other with excellence.
With love,
Katie Movic
